Speaking at the Turkey Chemicals Industry Council, TOBB Turkey Chemicals Industry Council President Timur Erk pointed out the importance of phasing out the import dependent system for a sector based incentive system instead of a export focused regional incentives.
Erk stated that the EU accommodation process should not be viewed as a threat and that a positive outlook on the subject would be suitable.
PETKİM Director General Hayati Öztürk stated that Turkey is not taking on the intended share of the international petrochemicals market.
Öztürk, identifying the petrochemicals industry as a homogenous sector stated that investments have been focused on the Far East and Middle East for the last 20 years while Turkey has not been taking its share of it.
Pointing out the exports numbers, raw materials abilities and technological infrastructure of Turkey, Öztürk stated that there are significant investors wanting to do business in Turkey.
Emphasizing that there could be a significant drop in current deficit if the chemicals industry’s development is focused on, AKKİM Director General Fatih Tanrıverdi stated that some rural organizations display a negative approach while the centralized public institutions provide their support.
AKKÖK Executive Council Member Mustafa Yılmaz, Dow Chemicals Director General İhsan Necipoğlu, Phamavision Board Presdient Ünsal Hekiman, Polisan Boya Executive Committee Member Necati Hakoğlu and Şişecam Soda Chemicals Vice Director General Gizep Sayın also made speeches identifying various problems and presenting suggestions for solutions during the meeting.
