Defense industry requests special credit mechanism for the sector for exports

TOBB Turkey Defense Industry Council President Yılmaz Küçükseyhan and Vice Presidents Haluk Bulucu and Ahmet Demir visited the Treasury Deputy Undersecretary Cavit Dağdaş in his office. The committee, under Küçükseyhan’s lead, requesting a special credit for the sector, met with Eximbank General Director Hayrettin Kaplan and Deputy General Director Mesut Gürsoy as well Cavit Çağdaş.​

 

- Demir: “A credit model similar to the FMF needs to be developed”

Stating that the Turkish defense industry is unable to enter various markets for the lack low-interest, long term, state guaranteed credit mechanisms, TOBB Turkey Defense Industry Council President Küçükseyhan said that an export credit mechanism similar to the USA’s FMF is needed.

- Küçükseyhan: The defense industry is a strategic asset

Providing information on the defense industry, Yılmaz Küçükseyhan stated that although figures reflecting the trade volume are small, with regards to the effect it has on inner dynamics, the defense industry’s priorities of political power and technological added value make it a strategic asset.

- Defense industry focusing on exports

Stating that co-production with foreign companies in countries which are we export to has been assessed, Küçükseyhan reminded that 52% of the Turkish Armed Forces’ needs are met with domestic production and that the industry has started focusing on exports.

- Dağdaş: Work to improve foreign buyer credits has started

Treasury Deputy Undersecretary Cavit Dağdaş touched on the importance of supporting exports with financial opportunities, stating that as the Treasury Undersecretariat, they embrace the policy of resource cost consistent pricing. Expressing that the Defense Industry Support Fund is an important resource for the sector, Dağdaş stated that work was underway to improve foreign buyer credit, thereby providing diversity in markets abroad.
