Attending the “Global Economy Policies” meeting, presided by the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Hisarcıklıoğlu also attended the G20 Advisory Group meeting held by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF).

During the meeting Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the global economy requires more political coordination than ever before, relaying important messages to G20 leaders and related Turkey’s model for moving past the crisis.

ICC G20 Advisory Group member M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, addressing the leaders of prominent global companies like Li&Fung Group of Companies President Victor K. Fung, Nestle CEO Peter Bulcke, GDF CEO Gerard Mestrallet, Royal Dutch Shell CEO Peter Voser, SEB Board President Marcus Wallenberg, McGraw Group of Companies President Harold McGraw and Rothschild Europe Vice President and ICC President Gerard Worms, stated that Turkey is one of the countries which continued to show a good performance and develop during the crisis.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the debates on European economies affect Turkey differently than the other G20 countries.

Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized how significant the European crisis is for the countries who are a part of Europe but not the European Union and that the necessary reforms need to be enacted.

- Productive SMBs should not have to pay more

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We know very well from Turkey’s 2001 crisis that making reforms is very difficult. There are political costs as well. However, this is necessary for the future of our societies and the global economy. The advanced states of our economies are strong enough to heal these wounds in a short time.  There is no sense in procrastinating about the solution, in running away from the bitter pill. If these political decisions are not made on time, it will only cause more damage being done to the global economy. Our expectations from the G20 governments are that solutions to problems such as the European debt crisis be found before too late. The private sector needs to be liberated. SMBs which keep producing should be prevented from having to pay more during this crisis. We also need to listen to the developing countries which have been suffering through no fault of their own for the last 3-4 years.”

Making high level contacts throughout the B20 Business Summit, M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu engaged in bi-lateral talks with Coca Cola CEO Muhtar Kent, Li & Fung Group of Companies President Victor Fung and 2012 B20 Mexico Summit Co-President and COPARMEX Deputy President J. Ramiro Cardenas Tejeda.
