Many interesting projects have been put forth by the 14 Entrepreneur Candidate Teams during the Startup Weekend Event. Two of these projects shared the first place. The first of these projects is the “Kitap Canavarı (Book Monster)” aimed at encouraging children to read; the other one aimed at making journeys more enjoyable, the “Keyf-i Seyyah (Traveler’s Joy)”.

The Startup Weekend Event, sponsored by Google and Microsoft, to incentivize entrepreneurship in various countries, was held on the 5th – 7th of October, 2012 with support of TEPAV and Viveka at TOBB ETU’s entrepreneurship center, “Garaj”.

“Kitap Canavarı” encourages children to read books by providing various puzzles and challenges while reading the book electronically which must be completed in order to keep reading. The project was developed by Ezgi Çetin, Gizem Kılıç, Edebali Şener and Sercan Uysal.

“Keyf-i Seyyah”, developed by Emine Çimen, Sevilay Yıkılmaz, Emel Bağdatoğlu, Ziya Altınok, Zeydin Bozkurt and Alper Yasemin, directs travelers to plan what to do with their spare time during their travels.

The Startup Weekend Ankara was organized as part of TEPAV’s Global Entrepreneurship Program (GEP) – Turkey by TOBB ETU and Viveka Incubation Center. The Startup Weekend event is a non-profit activity held in over 70 countries with the attendance of over 45,000 entrepreneurs. The event was held in Turkey previously in November 2011 in İstanbul. It was held for the first ime in Ankara this year.
