Hisarcıklıoğlu requested a solution for passage fees from the Hungarian Prime Minister Orban

17.12.2013 / İstanbul

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the delegation accompanying him attended a dinner with the representatives of the Turkish business community hosted by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Hungary is instrumental in the development and exports of the Turkish industry and went on to report that Turkey was subject to different fees. Hisarcıklıoğlu requested Orban’s support in solving this matter. Orban said, “I can promise to provide you with the best conditions.”

During his speech at the business dinner held at the İstanbul Shangri-La Bosphorus Hotel, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We are grateful that you’ve lowered fees for everyone down to 120 Euros. However we were subject to fees of 1500 Euros previous and we are still subject to 500 Euros in fees in addition to the 120 Euros. This may have escaped notice; it is only applied to Turkey. We are of the opinion that the Prime Minister will not let this unfairness stand and request that this be resolved.

Drawing attention to a shared heritage between the two countries, Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that they wish to engender cooperation.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban praised Turkey for its progress and said, “Thirteen years ago, Turkey suffered serious contradictions. Today it is a country full of confidence; a country with vision.”

Also giving speeches during the dinner were Turkish-Hungarian Business Council İsmet Güral and MÜSİAD President Nail Olpak.
