European Union's first registered cotton is from Türkiye

Söke Cotton became the 27th product to receive a geographical indication registration from the European Union. The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the first registered cotton of the European Union came out of Türkiye and said, “Good luck to Aydın and our country. I congratulate our Söke Commodity Exchange President Nejat Sağel, Söke Commodity Exchange Board of Directors, Assembly and everyone who contributed.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu said,
“We have a diversity of products that very few geographies in the world are
blessed with. As TOBB and the Chamber-Exchange community, we are making
intensive efforts for local and geographically marked products. Our work on 64
geographical indications and 6 traditional product names, which are in the
process of the European Union, continues.”
