Born in Bursa, Burkay completed his Master's Degree in International Marketing at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burkay Group, where family companies operating in the textile, retail, petrochemical and energy sectors are gathered under one roof.

İbrahim Burkay has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), the largest chamber of commerce and industry in Türkiye with more than 55,000 members, since May 2013.

Mr. Burkay served as a member of the Board of Directors of TOBB, the umbrella organization of the Turkish business world, between 2013-2018 and was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of TOBB once again in 2023.

İbrahim Burkay has been serving as the 1st Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) since 2022. Mr. Burkay is also a member of the TFF Executive Committee and is responsible for TFF Strategic Planning and New Project Development.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), the window of the Turkish business world to the world, since 2014.

With the decision of the Council of Ministers, he served as a Board Member representing 1.5 million companies that make up the private sector in the Presidency Public Ethics Board between 2017-2021.
